Benjamin Wood Handcrafted Cheeseboards

£30.00

Benjamin Wood is the creation of our Head Cheesemaker Peter, handcrafted in Devon.

Selecting wood from locally managed woodland using only storm felled or carefully managed forestry, the boards are made from 100% sustainable ash from within Devon.

Peter works closely with Jerry at Grantland Timber choosing pieces of wood that otherwise would go to waste to turn them into cheese, charcuterie and serving boards. Because the boards are made from irregular planks each board is unique. So, while there are two basic board shapes that were chosen to maximise the usable sections of wood, each cheeseboard is cut and shaped by hand so no two will ever be the same.

The boards start as rough saw planks which are divided up to make the best use of the available good timber. Rough shaping takes place, using an electric router for the naturally rounded edges before meticulous sanding takes the boards to their tactile final form.

The boards are finished and protected with natural pure tung oil, which is free from solvents and provides a hard-wearing, food-safe safe and non-toxic coating for the board.
