Quince Jelly by the Monks of Buckfast Abbey

Crafted with care by the Monks of Buckfast Abbey, this exquisite Quince Jelly is made using quinces grown in the serene grounds of the Abbey. A true labour of love, this collaboration brings together tradition and craftsmanship—Father Gregory now visits Sharpham each month to make cheese for the Abbey, creating a beautiful synergy between two Devon icons.

Quince is a unique fruit, similar in appearance to a pear but far too tart to eat raw. When slowly cooked with sugar, it transforms into a luscious, amber-hued paste with delicate floral notes and a gentle acidity. This classic accompaniment is perfect for adding depth and contrast to your cheeseboard. Quinces are harvested in the autumn months, typically from late September through November in the UK. This means fresh quince is only available for a limited time each year. Because quince paste is cooked and preserved, it can be enjoyed year-round- if it lasts that long! We love it as a traditional seasonal treat for our winter cheeseboards and festive occasions like Christmas.
