Brigette is our Sharpham Maker #7. Apart from cheese, Brigette's busy life includes horses, her cat and house and animal sitting for friends and family.

Briefly what does a typical day look like for Brigette?

I work on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and my main job is to get orders ready for dispatch. This includes wrapping any cheeses that are needed, and making up the orders.

How did you end up at Sharpham?

Back in 2005 I was called upon by my sister Debbie, who was head cheese maker at the time, if I could step in and cover for a member of staff who was off work due to an injury sustained outside of work.

And I never left! So 18 years later, here I am!

Outside of work?

I look after friends and family’s animals when they go on holiday. I no longer have a dog of my own due to work commitments, but I enjoy looking after other people's. House sitting for friends and family fits in with my life and means I'm still able to work at Sharpham.

I just have a cat, Henry, at home at the moment. My son looks after him while I am away house and dog sitting for other people.

(Although our modest Bridgette doesn't talk about it she's also an amazing horsewoman - as you can see from her pics below! The beautiful grey was called Moonraker.)

Favourite Sharpham cheese?

My favourite cheese is Ticklemore Goat and I love to make a caramelised red onion and goat cheese tart. (We like the sound of that Brigette!)

Favourite place to eat or drink in Devon?

We've got some great local pubs in the area around Sharpham. The Hunters Lodge in Cornworthy is very good, fantastic food. The Durant Arms just up the hill from the Sharpham Estate is also one of my favourites. Recommended!
