Our History

A Devon Cheesemaking Story Since 1981

Sharpham Dairy's story began in 1981 on the beautiful Sharpham Estate in South Devon, where a passion for traditional cheesemaking led to the creation of one of Britain's first Brie-style cheeses. More than four decades later, we've grown into an award-winning British artisan cheesemaker, creating a distinctive range of cheeses that celebrate the richness of Devon's dairy heritage. In 2024, we moved production to the South Devon Food Hub, beginning an exciting new chapter while staying true to the recipes and craftsmanship that made Sharpham cheese so special.

Great Cheese Starts with Great Milk

At the heart of every Sharpham cheese is exceptional milk, skilled hands and time-honoured cheesemaking techniques. Our rich Jersey cow's milk comes from herds grazing on Dartmoor pastures, giving our cheeses their distinctive golden colour, creamy textures and depth of flavour. From the buttery, mushroomy notes of Sharpham Brie to the rich, savoury character of our Camembert, every cheese is carefully crafted to bring out the natural qualities of its ingredients. We believe the best British cheeses don't need to imitate anyone else. They should have a character all of their own.

Good Cheese, Made with Purpose

We believe that making great cheese comes with a responsibility to the people, places and communities that make it possible. In 2022, Sharpham became the first dairy cheesemaker in the UK to achieve B Corp certification, recognising our commitment to balancing people, planet and profit. From supporting our team and local community to continually improving how we operate, we're proud to be part of a growing movement of businesses working towards a better future. For us, doing things properly matters just as much as making something delicious.
