Sharpham Dart Valley Reserve

Sandridge Barton, the home of Sharpham wine is widely recognised as producing some of England’s most outstanding wines, since 1981. Now based just 9 miles away from Sharpham Dairy just over the other side of the Dart river at Stoke Gabriel. The 32-acre vineyard is nestled in the valley of the South Hams in Devon. Their wines offer intense fruit flavours and aromas, which are made from carefully selected grape varieties grown on sheltered slopes overlooking the River Dart. Traditional and new-world techniques are employed resulting in a range of distinctive and carefully balanced wines. The range varies from refreshing whites, rosé, reds, and sparkling. Lucky for us there is a wine that goes with each of our artisan cheeses.

Sharpham Dart Valley Reserve

This English white wine is ripe and fruit driven and has a rich profile. Stone fruits such as white peach dominate the nose. The palate is rounded with sweet apricot and a subtle spice on the finish. Clean crisp, off-dry style wine is great for easy drinking or pairing with food.

Dart Valley Reserve & Sharpham Rustic

The Rustic is a semi-hard Jersey cow’s milk cheese that is crumbly in texture, with rich flavour from the Jersey milk and a delicate citrus bite on the finish. The Dart Valley Reserve, with its peachier fruit flavours and more weight, go perfectly with the Rustic, enhancing the citrus character in both the cheese and wine. Other cheeses of note to try with this English white wine are the Sharpham Brie and then Sharpham Camembert, both very different in flavour, but both soft and made with the rich Jersey cow’s milk the wine helps cut through the fatty notes and enhance the creamy grassy notes within the cheeses.
