Sharpham Pinot Noir

£26.00

Sandridge Barton, the home of Sharpham wine is widely recognised as producing some of England’s most outstanding wines, since 1981. Now based just 9 miles away from Sharpham Dairy just over the other side of the Dart river at Stoke Gabriel. The 32-acre vineyard is nestled in the valley of the South Hams in Devon. Their wines offer intense fruit flavours and aromas, which are made from carefully selected grape varieties grown on sheltered slopes overlooking the River Dart. Traditional and new-world techniques are employed resulting in a range of distinctive and carefully balanced wines. The range varies from refreshing whites, rosé, reds, and sparkling. Lucky for us there is a wine that goes with each of our artisan cheeses.

Sharpham Pinot Noir

This English red wine is a ripe and youthful cool climate Pinot Noir showing wild strawberries, and cherries with subtle spice. Full flavoured with juicy red berries and broad tannins. Drinking well now but will improve with time. Aged in an oak barrel for 9 months it was then blended and left for 2 weeks to settle before bottling.

CHEESE PAIRINGS:

The Sharpham Pinot Noir is light and delicate with wild strawberry and sour cherry characters. The red berry acidity cuts perfectly through the rich, buttery Sharpham Brie and suits it soft and runny texture when ripe, also bringing out the chicory-like flavours in the cheese. Due to this red wine acidity, it also pairs well with the indulgent Elmhirst soft cheese, cutting through the richness of the triple cream. With the Camembert a moist, soft, creamy, surface-ripened cow’s milk cheese, this brings out more of the berry flavours within the wine and has a totally different effect when paired with a warm baked camembert.  Why not try the two and work out which one is your favourite?
